Phil having a cry. Fairways too narrow, rough too tough, almost unplayable.

Welcome to a proper golf course.

See he is joint first round leader in the safe way open. 500 yard wide fairways.

I've really started to dislike him these last few years.

Good move that - I like it... it's a different game when you can't just blam it over 300 yards and get a sneaky advantage from it.

Our little Sunday morning group used to have 'No Driver' days... all your shots, including off the tee, have to be taken with irons. Makes it a totally different course, as you find yourself playing from different positions entirely.

Indeed Bushey. Nice to see accuracy and skill being rewarded. Nothing wrong with smashing it long per se, but there needs to be risk and reward involved.

Even the rough at the US open is being dialled back, to make it US friendly.

Yeah i see that too Westside.

Plenty of Yanks moaning about the course. The Ryder Cup was won by skill, rather than who can hit it the furthest (which was nice to see).

PGA courses set up for the longer hitters. Driver, Wedge.

Re: 42nd Ryder Cup - Le Golf National
Said on Sky, in the post match analysis, the crowds were pushed back an extra 40 yards or so (at Bjorn's request), from the fairways, to stop the wild American drives, getting stopped by hitting the crowd and getting good lies, from where the crowd had trampled down the rough. More chance of them landing, in virgin rough.

Re: 42nd Ryder Cup - Le Golf National
been a few fractures cheek bones, broken noses etc in our group of golf mates too.

It's fucking dangerous.

The crowds are getting closer and closer to the fairway. As good as these professionals are (and they are fucking outrageous), under the pressure of a huge competition like the Ryder Cup, there are likely to be a few wayward shots.

Re: 42nd Ryder Cup - Le Golf National
I once nearly killed a mate of mine, took a back swing with a 6 iron and he was prating about behind and was standing too close. Club hit him right next to his template, cracked his head open and caused an indented fracture onto his brain. That will learn him.....

The steward told her to keep an eye on the ball.

Westside... yeah it was more of a square drive in cricketing terms.... would have been a 4 all the way if he had not stopped it... with his chest

Re: 42nd Ryder Cup - Le Golf National
As long as you didn't hit the ball backwards Northern, it's your mate's fault for standing forward of you, when you hit the ball.

Surprised there ain't more of it to be honest Grumps.... I almost cleaned a MATE out a few years ago... topped it like a tracer bullet and smacked my MATE just under the heart (he was about 15 foot away)... had no chance to get a fore out... the bruise the next day was EPIC

I see an Egyptian woman was blinded in one eye after a ball smacked her in the face.

Now sueing the organisers.

Bet that smarted a bit!

A thoroughly enjoyable few days in Paris.

Went on Friday and Sunday.

Fantastic course which meant you could actually see the golf which doesn’t normally happen at a Ryder cup.

Good party in the spectator village after the games yesterday.

Bit nervy for a whlie but comfortable in the end.

Will miss the next couple as Whistling straits is too far from a big city and the course in Rome will not create great viewing.

New York in 2024.

Re: 42nd Ryder Cup - Le Golf National
Happy - honestly, it's so much better. The cameras just can't do it justice. 18 is a great finishing hole, but it's right next to 15 Which is just a fabulous golf hole and pretty much every match went down there so you don't get short changed by 18. 16 is right next to both, which is again a brilliant hole and a great little amphitheatre. Tricky to get a good view of all 3 with the numbers there but not impossible.

Tbh it's the same all over the course, it's so well planned and layed out that you can't really go wrong. 1 & 2 is a great spot, 4 &5, 5&6... and so on. Love the place and may go back for the French open next time around.
